What causes Dengue?
The fever is caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted into athe human body by the bite of an infected female mosquito of the species Aedes aegypti.
Aedes aegypti was originated in Africa but is now found in tropical regions across the world. Sometimes, Aedes albopictus mosquitoes also spread the virus in rare cases. Experts explain the four serotypes of dengue virus; DEN 1, DEN 2, DEN 3, and DEN 4.
The mosquito causes mild and severe Dengue. However, only 1 in 20 people develop severe Dengue, but doctors advice not to take any chances in the diagnosis.
Infants, pregnant women, and people who have suffered earlier from Dengue are at higher risk of developing severe Dengue.
